## Questions and answers

### Is ClipMill really free and open source?

Yes. ClipMill is free to download and its source is available under AGPL-3.0-only. The local clipping workflow does not require a subscription. Optional cloud processing can have separate provider costs.

### Can I turn a podcast into Shorts, Reels, or TikToks?

Yes. Start with a video recording of your podcast or interview, choose suggested moments, edit the captions and framing, and export an MP4. Use vertical framing for Shorts, Reels, and TikTok, or choose square and landscape layouts.

### Does ClipMill process video locally?

Local analysis, editing, and export run on your computer. Setup and model downloads use the internet. YouTube import and optional cloud analysis also connect to external services. Update notices can be turned off in Settings → About.

### Does local AI work on Windows, Mac, and Linux?

Yes. Current releases run the Qwen editorial model through MLX on Apple silicon, or through llama.cpp on Windows and Linux. A suitable Vulkan GPU can accelerate Windows and Linux; CPU processing is available but can be slower. A built-in picker works without an editorial model.

### What can I export?

Export MP4 video clips with captions burned into the image, plus separate SRT or WebVTT subtitle files. Review the wording and framing before uploading the finished video to your chosen platform.
